Making Side Leaders

By Kelly Gallagher Abbott

Jukebox Quilts

When working with stretchy fabrics like Minky or silks, you might find that using one or two heavy clamps on the quilt sides will distort the backing fabric. There are long lightweight clamps available, but we find them difficult to put on and remove. You can easily make your own side leaders. These are also very useful if you haven’t been provided with a wide enough back. The needleplate and throat won’t catch on these, where a clamp would be too close to the quilting and machine.
